Basement slab pour day

Today was the last concrete pour day.  They did the basement floor and the exterior basement steps/landings.

Lots of steam coming off the concrete once it was poured and the sun started to come out.  Interesting phenomenon!

The heater was kept running all afternoon once the pour was completed, but due to fire safety concerns the best we can do overnight is to wrap the entire foundation and hope for the best.  The contractor ensures that all will be OK and I've decided to just let this one go and hope for the best.  It's only a slab, after all.

These are shown in reverse chronological order.  The top photo was the last one I took, around 5:15 just before I left.  They had everything tarped over, heater going, and were just working on finishing the surface.  We had the light setup as it was completely dark inside at that point.

Almost perfect placement of the first step light:

 1st layer of housewrap.  Usually only one layer is needed but in this case the contractor wanted to get something in place to protect the OSB that was put up almost 2 weeks ago.  We are planning on using a drainwrap product later on that is way better than the standard home wrap shown.  Note the use of cap nails however.  This is the RIGHT way to install homewrap.  Lots of contractors will install with tack staplers but this is not the correct way.

Wall Pour!

Today feels like a momentous day, but really the forms (i.e. general shape of the walls) have been in place for a while now.

In any case, the concrete pour went according to plan as far as I can tell.  No word yet on when the floor will have the gravel installed, which is a requirement before I can start laying down drain plumbing.

I assume they will return on Saturday to remove the forms.

I haven't ventured down into the "pit' yet to see if all of my electrical boxes stayed in position.  Not much I can do about it now in any case.

Footings Pour

Concrete footings were poured yesterday.  This is the part of the foundation that the concrete walls sit on.  The forming of the concrete walls begins on Monday, weather permitting.

Also, today we had our 60 feet (smallest roll available) of type L copper tubing delivered.  This will be used for the water line upgrade.

You're not allowed to use the typical 10-ft sections of rigid copper pipe that you'd find in Home Depot or Lowes because then there would be solder joints deep underground.  It has to be a continuous pipe from water meter to where it enters the home.  We are only going to end up using about 26 feet so I will try and sell the rest to a plumber.

Also, it must be surrounded by bare earth for at least 10 feet to be considered a grounding point.  So, it will exit our home and after 10 feet we will slip a PVC sleeve around it to protect against tree roots.

Also, PEX tubing is not a good choice because it doesn't function as a grounding point for the electrical system.

Last photo is what the shed looks like right now.  The pipe on the right is the foundation drain pipe.  Everything else is house plumbing supplies for the basement space and beyond.
