Siding and other progress

It's been a while since I've posted an update.  Lots has been happening.

We have drywall hung (physically on the walls) in the basement, 1st floor, and part of the 2nd floor (the area where we're not "living").  Drywall is actually FINISHED (taped, mudded, sanded) in the basement and we're in the process now of priming and painting.  We hope to finish that by Sunday or Monday.

Once painting downstairs is complete, we can install the laminate flooring that we purchased from Costco.  Once that is finished, we'll make that bedroom our bedroom and seal off the inside access to it so that workers do not go in and out.

First floor drywall finishing begins tomorrow (Friday) and continues throughout the weekend.  Once done there, the finisher moves upstairs.  We can then start priming and painting the first floor as well, although we'll hold off on the 1st floor flooring until no more workers will be going in and out.

Meanwhile, the exterior trim is finished and the siding install has begun as well.

Today we got a look at the first of the 2nd floor "shingles".  Sorry, not the best picture but if you look closely you can see the look of the shingles on the 2nd floor..

This is not the final color of the siding, although I do very much like this color.  This is just what it looks like in its primed/unfinished state.  It still needs to be painted.  i am hoping for a color similar to this.  Kim wants a dark blue. We'll see how that all pans out!

Ready for drywall!

Lots of moving around things and cleaning up this weekend in preparation for drywall, which starts tomorrow.  Insulators finished yesterday.  I also cleaned up the old basement space/workshop and got those lights hooked up.

A/C turn-on tomorrow as well!

Oh and yes I figured out how to move the giant radiator off of the two wooden dollies and onto the large red one.  Elbow grease and levers!  At least now it is much, much easier to move it around.

Spray foam complete

Spray foam finished today in the evening.  Unfortunately this means 24 hours before I can do any work inside so that rules out Friday evening work.

Work continued on the rear deck. It is mostly finished at this point except for some guard rails and the steps portion, which should happen tomorrow.

Exterior trim materials were delivered today as well.

Spray foam and rear deck

Spray foam began today.  They are applying 1" on all exterior walls and along the rim joist (where the concrete meets wood).  Although it has some insulating value (R 6.5) this is primarily being done for air sealing purposes.  Much of the day today was prep work - they are pretty meticulous with covering all windows, switches, outlets, floors, objects, etc.  Now that that's all in place they should be able to finish up tomorrow by mid afternoon.

Unfortunately no work can be done during application and within 12-24 hours afterwards (due to the fumes) so I'll get a few days/evenings off.  But then it's full steam ahead through the weekend and Monday/Tuesday night in preparation for drywall on the 1st floor on Wednesday (I think).

Also the rear deck build began.  The majority of that should be completed sometime tomorrow.  That will be nice to have proper steps out of the back of the house (1st floor) again.  It is wide enough to put the grill on one side of the doorway and a pair of chairs on the other side

Changes they are 'a comin!

Lots of progress today.

First and most importantly, all 4 of our inspections passed (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and framing).  This means we can proceed with insulation and drywall.

Insulation scheduled to begin tomorrow, drywall on Thursday (though that might have to be pushed back, we will see).

Also, the storage unit was removed today.  Not quite sure why but I was a bit nostalgic seeing it get loaded up onto the trailer.

Finally, we got our first toilet and sink installed today.  We installed the basement bathroom toilet, finalizing things with the sewage ejector, and go the laundry utility sink installed.

So, now we have an actual bathroom AND a place to wash hands/paintbrushes.  It may sound simple but it is a big psychological/symbolic step.

Workshop stairs

Pretty good for my first set of stairs!  Then again, it is hard to mess up a 28.25" rise.

We are as ready as we can be for inspections tomorrow.  Fingers crossed!

Basement HVAC and front door

New front door installed yesterday.  It looks great!  Still some floor patching to do though.

Basement ducted mini split installed as well.  They will return today to do the short duct runs.
